How to Form an Emotional Connection With a Child Who Has Social Delays
2:00 PM
Do you long to have a better connection with your grandchild, niece or nephew with a social delay? Do you have a friend whose child you want to be emotionally closer with but you just don't know how to find a way to bond? Does your child stare at a video screen and you despair of ever having fun together?

With the holidays approaching and children home on winter break, we will be spending more time with family and friends. While some people relish this time together, those who have a child or relative with special needs may need a little extra coaching on the best ways to form an emotional connection.

Join Meghan Barlow, PhD from Dr. Meghan Barlow and Associates, for this interactive presentation aimed at those parents and relatives of elementary-aged children (5- to 10-years old) who have a social delay. Dr. Barlow will discuss causes and give specific ideas about how better to relate to your loved one.

Childcare is provided but space is limited. To register for the program and child care, please visit www.connectingforkids.org/events or email info@connectingforkids.org.

West Shore Film Series to host film “Citizen Koch”
7:00 PM - 9:30 PM
Come see the film PBS decided not to show!
Citizen Koch was completed using funds from a successful Kickstarter campaign after allegations that PBS pulled funding initially promised to it. Since at least half of PBS' funding relies on donations, it has been alleged that financial support for the film was pulled because the content was not favourable to the Koch brothers, who are major donors to the network.
The Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision in 2010 lifted a century-long ban on restricted corporate election spending, unleashing a new era of unbridled special-interest campaign finance. Citizen Koch examines the mushrooming struggle between money and democracy through the dramatic lens of the 2011 standoff in Wisconsin when Governor Scott Walker, bankrolled by out-of-state billionaires, stripped state employees of their union rights.
Among a million outraged Wisconsinites, we meet individuals struggling with their Republican political loyalties as they decide whether to join the grassroots-fueled recall of Walker, a GOP rising star and Tea Party favorite. Meanwhile, former Louisiana governor Buddy Roemer watches his Republican presidential campaign fizzle as he gets outspent and drowned out by Super PAC–funded opponents.
Citizen Koch probes behind the headlines to penetrate one of the core issues of our time: Who really has the power in America—private donors or the voting public? (Film length: 90 minutes)
