Get to the Rec
The kids are starting to head back to school and fall will be here before we know it. Fall programming is close to starting up at the Westlake Recreation Center. Programs are filling up quick so be sure to sign up for the classes you had been planning on signing up for before its too late. We have many programs to offer for people of all ages. Here are some programs that are starting here within the next week or two. Other events and activities may be found online or in our Rec Gazette.
As the summer is winding down Peterson Pool has some fun for the kids up to the age of 10. The Goldfish Grab will be held Sunday, August 29, starting at 7:00 p.m. Each child will get the chance to catch a goldfish and take it home. Make sure to bring a net or bucket to catch your goldfish in.
Moms: Get the opportunity to work out while your young one is watched. Mom and Munchkin will allow moms to enjoy an exercise class with an instructor while our staff watches your child (must be 2 years old or younger). Classes will begin Monday, August 30, at 10 a.m.
Don’t forget about the 10,000 Step Challenge. Sign up now as the program will start August 30. You will receive a pedometer when you sign up to keep record of the amount of steps you take each day. Commit to becoming more active and reach 10,000 or more steps a day to help you stretch your daily physical lifestyle farther, one step at a time.
It’s time for Tiny Tots. Tot Soccer, Tot Surprise and Bitty Basketball will start August 31, September 1 and 2. These classes are for children ages 3-5. The kids will learn the basics to the sports in a fun, age appropriate setting. Tot Surprise is something new this fall. The kids will learn a new sport/activity each week. Don’t miss out on the fun. Sign up now before the classes are full.
Football season is here. What better ways to get the kids into that football spirit than to sign them up for flag football. Coed Youth Flag Football (Grades 1-2) will start September 7 and the deadline to register is September 5. The NFL Punt, Pass and Kick (ages 6-15) will start at 10:00 a.m. September 4 at the Westlake Recreation Center grounds. The Pass and Catch class is geared for kids ages 4-6 and will teach the basics of the game.
