Safe boating program informational meeting April 13

Last year's boating class students learn to safely operate a personal watercraft.

Parents and children interested in learning about a free safe boating program for seventh-grade students should plan to attend an information meeting on Wednesday, April 13, at the Bay Youth Center. The meeting will be held at 6:00 p.m. to distribute sign-up materials, discuss the program and answer questions.

This program is open to all seventh-grade children in the Western suburbs. Students enrolled in the program will complete the Ohio Boating Education Course which is required by law for any person born after 1982 to operate a power driven boat over 10 horsepower. This class will be held on May 14 and 21 and is mandatory.

Students will also be instructed in safe operation of power boats, personal watercraft, sailboats, canoes and kayaks. These on-the-water classes are on June 13, 20 and 27 at Whiskey Island Marina near Edgewater Park.

For additional information or to print a brochure go to www.spiritofamerica95.org/cuyahoga.htm or email spirit44140@yahoo.com. This course is nationally recognized and is partially funded by the ODNR Division of Watercraft, The National Water Safety Congress, and associated with the Bay Village Schools.
