Westlake resident enters race for state rep

I am excited to announce that I am off and running in my campaign to become the next Representative to the Ohio House from the 16th District; which includes Westlake, Bay Village, Rocky River, Fairview Park and North Olmsted.

A native of Cleveland, I am a Westlake resident, a husband, father and teacher. I am a dedicated family man with three young children. During this campaign, my wife, who is also a teacher, and I will celebrate our 20th anniversary. I’m a proud Navy veteran of 20 years. My family is the typical middle-class, hard working Ohio family.

I am running because I know we need a vastly improved economy that offers good jobs for the future of our children, and I will work hard to see that happens. I know we need to protect the environment for their safety and health, so that Ohio’s beauty is there for them to enjoy with their children. I am in this race because I want a better life for my family and the families in our district and in Ohio.

My life has been a life of service, first in the military and then as a teacher. I have served as a building delegate, a chapter chairperson, as a delegate to the North Shore Federation of Labor, and on the Cleveland Teachers Union Executive Board. I have watched as our current representative, Nan Baker, has supported a series of experiments on our public schools, supporting failed policies such as for-profit charter schools, vouchers, and a flawed accountability system based primarily on standardized test scores. I know our children deserve much better. Our public schools deserve to be supported, not punished. Our schools and our tax money should not be handed over to the lowest bidder with the best political connections.

It is going to be a long haul but, as a long-distance runner and marathoner, I know what it takes to get to the finish line. I will soon be hosting a district-wide campaign kick-off event. I look forward to meeting more members of our community as I go door to door throughout our neighborhoods. So much needs to be done, and I am the candidate that will bring much-needed positive change to our community.

Sincerely,

Todd LeVeck, Westlake

Candidate for State Representative
