A warm welcome to Welcome House

Welcome House Inc. has relocated its headquarters to 802 Sharon Dr., Westlake. A community open house will take place on Tuesday, March 27, from 2-6 p.m. The organization extends an open invitation to all West Shore residents to stop by to become acquainted with their new neighbors.

Welcomes House provides services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The not-for-profit agency employs 265 staff members and provides care for over 140 clients.

Welcome House was established in 1981 with one group home for men on Dover Center Road in Westlake. Two more homes followed. These homes were located on Lorain Road in North Olmsted. From these humble beginnings, Welcome House currently supervises four group homes in the eastern suburbs along with twenty-six group homes in the western suburbs. In addition, Welcome House works with clients in supported living homes and with those who still reside in their family's home.

Executive Director Tony Thomas is an innovative and effective leader. The agency has a quality nursing team which oversees the medical needs of clients. All staff are thoroughly trained in the newest methods of care approved for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The combination of dedicated leadership and staff has helped Welcome House expand and improve, even during these difficult economic times. The need for larger quarters became obvious as the agency has grown so rapidly during the last five years.

Please stop in to visit the folks at Welcome House on March 27. If you can't make it then, feel free to stop in for a tour, anytime. Welcome House is a welcome addition to our community.
