Westlake Porter Public Library will expand hours in August

The Westlake Porter Public Library Board of Trustees voted at their June meeting to increase the number of hours the library is open. Starting on Sunday, August 5, the library will be open on Sundays from 1-5 p.m. Traditionally the library is closed on summer Sundays until Labor Day. In addition, the library will be open until 6 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays starting on Friday, August 10. Currently the library closes at 5 p.m. on those days.

The decision to add these hours was based upon several factors, including customer requests, Westlake City School districts’ earlier starting time this year, and the hours of other area libraries.

“We try to meet our customers’ needs and expectations whenever we can,” said Library Director Andrew Mangels. “In this case, after analyzing the issue, we realized that it was possible so went ahead with the additional hours.”

Mangels added that library officials are considering remaining open on Sundays for the entire summer starting in 2013.
