Are you ready for a positive story about food?

There are many movies about food today, and most of them talk about bad, bad things! Are you ready for a beautiful, positive story about food?

When the premiere of "For the Love of Food" was held May 1 at the Environmental Studies Center of Oberlin College, there were moments when the photography was so beautiful that it could have been a film for meditation! Northeastern Ohio – including towns like Kent and Garrettsville, Oberlin and Vermilion, and many more – is a mecca of local food, and the countryside where so many farms are is so beautiful. "For the Love of Food" gives you a respite from the typical movies about food while showing how beautiful our part of the country is!

For that reason, Unity Spiritual Center will host this movie as a part of its Spiritual Cinema series on Friday, August 17, at 7 p.m. It is hoped that the discussion group following the movie will be led by Brad Masi, director of "For the Love of Food." Brad is a 1993 graduate of Oberlin College who led the community endeavor along with many other Northern Ohio groups to create this community-based cinema experience, which captures the perspective of community members. The film stretches passive viewing in a dark room to a tool for community engagement.

Healthy local food systems are featured in the film including five different aspects: Backyard homesteads and urban farms, diversified farms, local food entrepreneurs, community markets and farm-to-table connections. But you will find yourself getting lost in the photography and the "real" characters from the community. It is a beautiful film, suitable for the whole family.

Join us at Unity, 23855 Detroit Rd. in Westlake. Come early and enjoy the beautiful campus with its Labyrinth and peacefulness. The film begins at 7 p.m. and you can register at the website www.unityspiritualcenter.com and pay the $10 admission fee there or call the office at 440-835-0400 and pay at the door.

Popcorn is served during the film as well as healthy snacks from Nature's Bin during the discussion group. Reserve your spot now and join us on Friday, August 17 – you will love the scenery and you will be inspired in many ways about food!
