Unity goes 'In Search of the Future' Sept. 28

Where did we come from? Why are we here? What do the "wise ones" know?

These are questions that many of you may have asked over your lifetimes. On Friday, Sept. 28, Unity Spiritual Center, in a special Spiritual Cinema offering in combination with the annual Fall Program, presents a bold synthesis of information, uniting ancient prophecy and indigenous wisdom with cutting-edge science with the showing of "In Search of the Future," a feature-length documentary in the nature-of-the-universe genre pioneered by "What the Bleep Do We Know?" and "The Secret."

This uplifting film was shot in the deserts, mountains, caves and universities of southern Africa and the cities and mountains of America and Mexico. From the "Cradle of Humankind" in South Africa and the Kalahari Desert, home of the world's oldest humans, to the Rocky Mountains, cliff dwellings and cities of America and the remote mountain lakes of Mexico, the film presents to indigenous elders, visionary futurists, and Western scientists – the "wise ones" of the planet – questions, lots and lots of questions:

"Where did we humans come from? What does it mean to be human? Is there a new phase of human evolution yet to come, the era of the 'true human'? Where are we headed as a species? What role do we have to play in the future of our planet? What about the Mayan Calendar and the year 2012? The Hopi Prophecy? Could we be at the dawn of a new era of global inter-connectedness?"

The answers are engaging, astounding, curiously similar, yet spanning a wide range of perspectives. Director Andrew Cameron Bailey asks his viewers to ponder the big picture.

Be there to see this beautiful movie and to hear the wisdom of the wise ones the world over on Friday, Sept. 28, beginning at 7 p.m. at Unity Spiritual Center, 23855 Detroit Rd., Westlake. Spiritual Cinema is a monthly program which includes popcorn, the featured movie and a relevant discussion group with snacks from Nature's Bin following the feature.

The discussion group, which will be led by Laverne Wilson, promises to pose excellent questions to ponder from the producers of the movie. The monthly features and discussions produce thought-provoking insights which last long after the evening concludes.
