FYI Opera gossip is 'The Secret Marriage'

David Bamberger, CIM Director of Opera Theater

An opera so popular at its premier, the cast was asked to do an encore of the entire opera, will be previewed on Oct. 16, at 7:30 p.m., at the FYI: Opera program at Westlake Porter Public Library, 27333 Center Ridge Rd.

Domenico Cimarosa’s comic opera "Il matrimonio segreto" ("The Secret Marriage"), considered to be the composer’s greatest masterpiece, will be given form and dimension through the expert handling of David Bamberger, director of opera theater at the Cleveland Institute of Music.

Bamberger not only provides intriguing (and sometimes juicy) background details of the opera’s time period and the composer’s life, but he also brings talented CIM student vocalists to perform selected arias from the opera. Regular FYI: Opera attendees eagerly anticipate the delightful experience of hearing gifted voices singing great music in an intimate space within the framework of Bamberger’s knowledge and humor.

Cimarosa’s "Il matrimonio segreto" premiered in 1792 in Vienna. The comic opera greatly pleased the emperor, who invited the cast to dinner, and then asked to have the opera performed again.

The delightful Oct. 16 program is offered FREE to the public by the Westlake-Westshore Arts Council, which has sponsored the FYI: Opera programs for over 25 years.

The FYI program is a glimpse into CIM’s full, enchanting production of "Il matrimonio segreto" which will be performed Nov. 7 to 10. Information and tickets for CIM’s production are available online at cim.edu/promos/ilmatrimonio or by calling  216-795-3211.
