Upcoming programs at the Bay Village Branch Library

The annual favorite and much acclaimed booklist “Great Books for Kids” has just arrived in our library. Filled with book selections divided by age, it contains summaries of titles for ages birth to 18 years, with additional selections for families and some examples of toys from the Toy Library.

Just in time for holiday shopping, the titles can serve as a guide when choosing books for certain ages. Visit the library to pick up the brochure, and check out the display of books that are included in the list. We’ll be happy to request any titles that are checked out. Wednesday, Nov. 28 (7 p.m.) MAYAN CALENDAR IN THE SKY – Could the ancient Mayans predict the end of the world? Why is Dec. 21, 2012, important? The library’s Science and Technology Specialist will illuminate the science behind the Mayan calendar, ancient astronomy, and doomsday predictions. 

Saturday, Dec. 1 (11 a.m.) READING WITH THE STARS – Families with children ages 2–7 are invited to get up close and personal with our local mail carrier. He will share a story, craft, and details about his job. You can even check out the mail truck up close!

Tuesday, Dec. 4 (10 a.m.) EXPLORATION STATION: SHARING AND CARING – For ages 3-5 and a caregiver. Join us for stories and activities about sharing with others. Children will be able to explore and practice social skills through play and hands-on learning stations.

Tuesday, Dec. 11 (4 p.m.) DECEMBER GAMES – For grades K-3. Enjoy a craft, games and activities that will get you in the mood for the holidays! Parents must sign a permission slip before the start of the program. 

Thursday, Dec. 13 (7 p.m.) CLEVELAND CHRISTMAS MEMORIES – Join us as  local foodie and poet Gail Bellamy reminisces and share holiday stories from her latest book, “Cleveland Christmas Memories.” Books will be available for purchase and signing.
