Upcoming programs at Bay Village Branch Library

The Bay Village Library staff hopes everyone had a wonderful holiday season and we’ll help you get the New Year off to a good start. Did you get a digital device for e-books? We have information to get you started downloading books from the comfort of your home. If exercising is your resolution, come in and check out a DVD or book to get you started. And of course this cold weather is perfect to spend time reading, so browse the collection and the displays throughout the library. Come to the library to enjoy the following programs:

ADULT DEPARTMENT

Wednesday, Jan. 9 (7 p.m.) MUSIC OF THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT – See and hear the songs that inspired a nation! Dr. Michael Strasser, professor of musicology at Baldwin Wallace University, will present a historical perspective of the Civil Rights Movement.

Thursday, Jan. 17 (7 p.m.) WOMAN’S GUIDE TO MONEY – Join business expert Leah Villalobos as she discusses five steps to help women take control of their financial lives, which include identifying financial goals and coming up with a strategy to reach those goals.

TEEN DEPARTMENT

Monday, Jan. 14 (7 p.m.) GIRLS IN BAY BOOK DISCUSSION – For grades 5-8 and an adult. Girls, bring an adult female friend for some great time together! We’ll discuss a book, share a snack and do a related activity. Copies of the book will be available one month before the discussion.

Tuesday, Jan. 22 (7 p.m.) ACT PREP – For high school students. Knowledge is power! College Now Greater Cleveland will help you set your personal ACT score goal based on your talents. Learn which questions you should skip, develop specific strategies for each subject section, and make your plan to reach your ACT score goal!

CHILDREN’S DEPARTMENT

Saturday, Jan. 12 (10:30 a.m.) SENSORY STORYTIME – Join us for this storytime designed for students with different needs including autism, Down Syndrome, ADHD, and other special needs or challenges. The program incorporates a schedule board, double visuals and sensory opportunities as well as a half-hour socialization time following the program.

Tuesday, Jan. 15 (4 p.m.) BOOK JEOPARDY – For grades 2-3. Have a blast reading a book and playing a related game. We’ll read “Titanic: Lost and Found.”

Wednesday, Jan. 16 (7 p.m.) IT’S A GUY THING – For boys in grades 3-4 and a male friend. A good book, a fun activity and food are all part of this laid-back program for boys and their dads or an adult male buddy. Copies of the book “The Champ” are available at the Circulation Desk.

Friday, Jan. 18 (11:30 a.m.) DREAM BIG AND READ MAGIC SHOW – For ages 2 and up. The Divellas are back with a new show! You’ll love this event that combines magic, puppets and lots of fun!

Saturday, Jan. 19 (11 a.m.) MOVIN AND GROOVIN – For ages birth-5 years and a caregiver. Enjoy a story and then put on your dancing shoes for some fun, movin' and groovin' to the music!

Monday, Jan. 21 (11 a.m.) FLYING WITH THE FREEDOM BIRD – For families with children ages 3 and up. Join storyteller Jennifer Johnson for a multicultural story celebration of freedom, peace and cooperation. A peace-wreath craft will follow the story.

Thursday, Jan. 24 (11 a.m.) PRESCHOOL PALS STORYTIME – For children ages 3 1/2-5. Join us for stories, songs and rhymes for children to attend on their own – parents can relax in the Children’s Room!
