Cleveland Clinic cardiac surgeons will speak at Westlake Porter Public Library

Doctors Marc Gillinov and Steven Nissen, cardiac surgeons at the Cleveland Clinic, will speak about heart health at Westlake Porter Public Library on Tuesday, Feb. 26, at 7 p.m. They will also sign copies of their book, "Heart 411," which will be available for purchase courtesy of Barnes and Noble.

Dr. Gillinov is a staff cardiac surgeon at the Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Heart & Vascular Institute at Cleveland Clinic. He has special expertise in several types of cardiac valve surgeries and replacements, and is surgical director of the Center for Atrial Fibrillation at Cleveland Clinic. In addition to co-authoring "Heart 411," Dr. Gillinov is the medical editor of the Cleveland Clinic’s "Cardiac Consult" and has served on the editorial boards of e-Cleveland Clinic, The Heart Surgery Forum, Innovations, the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery and the Journal of Cardiac Surgery. He received his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University.

Dr. Nissen is the chairman of the Robert and Suzanne Tomsich Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic. For the last two decades his research has focused on the use of intravascular ultrasound imaging (IVUS) for the assessment of coronary atherosclerosis, and he has served as international principle investigator for several large IVUS trials. Dr. Nissen has also served on a variety of boards in the medical community, lectures both nationally and internationally, and has advised the FDA and testified about drug safety before the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. In addition to co-authoring "Heart 411," he has written over 350 journal articles and 60 book chapters, and is the current editor of Current Cardiology Report, and senior consulting editor to the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
