Bay Middle School students will compete at Power of the Pen state finals

A strong showing at the Regional Power of the Pen competition held recently in Sandusky has earned a spot for Bay Middle School seventh-graders Chloe Roberts and Jessica Rychel, and eighth-grader Lauren Sheil, at the Power of the Pen State Finals. The girls will compete at the College of Wooster on Friday, May 24.   

The three girls rose to the top 24 percent of Regional Competition participants in order to make it to the state finals.

Chloe Roberts won the first-place trophy for her grade level. Jessica Rychel placed 12th and Lauren Sheil placed 15th.

The Bay Middle School team won third place overall for the Sweepstakes Trophy, indicating high marks throughout the competition for both the seventh- and eighth-grade teams. Seventh-grade team members were Grace Beam, Carly Goebel, Chloe Roberts and Jessica Rychel; eighth-grade team members were Lauren Sheil, Sarah Brumagin, Phil Lally, Laura Colagiovanni and Jessica Perri. Eighth-grader Olivia Risch volunteered as a runner.

Bay Middle School language arts instructor Helen Lanning is the students' Power of the Pen advisor.
