'What the Bleep' comes to Unity April 26

If you’ve never seen the riveting film, “What the Bleep Do We Know!?” you need to make your way to Unity Spiritual Center on Friday, April 26. In fact, even if you have seen the movie, see it again. It’s simply that kind of movie that yields something more, something different, each time you see it.

For those who haven’t seen it, be aware that “What the Bleep Do We Know!?” is a unique type of film. Released in 2004, it is part documentary, part story and part elaborate and inspiring visual effects and animations. Blending science and science fiction, this strange and fascinating film asks the question, “What is real, what is unreal, and how do we really know the difference?”

A series of top scientists and mystics combine quantum physics, neuroscience and spirituality together to explore the situation of the protagonist, Amanda, who finds herself in a fantastic Alice-in-Wonderland experience. Her daily uninspired life literally begins to unravel, revealing the uncertain world of the quantum field hidden behind what we consider to be our normal, waking reality. Amanda, played by Marlee Matlin, is thrown into crisis. She begins to question what is real and what is not.

The 14 scientists and mystics interviewed in documentary style serve as a modern day Greek chorus. In an artful filmic dance, their ideas are woven together as a tapestry of truth. The thoughts and words of one member of the chorus blend into those of the next, adding further emphasis to the film’s underlying concept of the interconnectedness of all things.

Meanwhile, as Amanda works through her crisis, she conquers her fears, gains wisdom and wins the keys to the great secrets of the ages, all in the most entertaining way. She is then no longer the victim of circumstances, but is on the way to being the creative force in her life.

What a movie! Don’t miss seeing it. Admission is $10, which includes a bag of popcorn. The movie begins at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 26, and runs 108 minutes.
