BAYarts students' ceramic exhibit and sale opens May 3

Sue Kirchgessner's "Ceramic Garden" dishes are among the pieces created by BAYarts students for the annual exhibit.

Each year, BAYarts' advanced pottery students, under the direction of Moira Beale, BAYarts ceramic department head, conceive, create and curate a show of their work inspired by a central theme. This year's theme is "Clay Garden" and opens May 3, just in time for mother's day and spring, featuring bird houses, bird baths, yard art and more.

Beale feels the "soup to nuts" planning and executing of the yearly show teaches students how a gallery works and how to present their work. Pieces are for sale at affordable prices and sell out quickly! Proceeds of the sale go back to the studio for equipment and updates.

This year's artists include Julie Barker, Jeff Chalmers, Leah Gary, Sue Kirchgessner, Denise Novack, Linda McDonough, Mark Lapczenski, Joe Morris, Sue Peplin, Jessica Ramage, Alison Brown, Amy Coursen, Elise Till, Shellie McQuaid, Andrea Seraphino and Erin Schechtman.

The opening reception is Friday, May 3, from 7-9 p.m. in the Sullivan Family Gallery in the Fuller House and runs through May 24. Fuller House hours are 8 a.m. to noon or by appointment. BAYarts is located at 28795 Lake Road in Bay Village.
