Upcoming programs at the Bay Village Branch Library

The calendar just turned to May and I think it’s finally safe to say that spring has arrived! The flowers and flowering trees are beautiful and the buds on trees have  appeared overnight, it seems. Storytimes end for the month of May beginning on May 6 so we can prepare for summer activities and visit the schools. We’re getting excited about our summer programs and of course, the Summer Reading Game! Details about the game and kick-off celebration will be coming soon! Until then, join us for these programs and to find a book that’s perfect for your needs. Yard work, spring repairs and dealing with the allergies that those flowers bring – we have the book for you!

Wednesday, May 1 (1:30 p.m.) WEDNESDAY BOOK DISCUSSION – Join us for a discussion of  “The Happiness Project” by Gretchen Rubin.

Thursday, May 2 (7:30 p.m.) THURSDAY EVENING BOOK DISCUSSION – We’ll discuss the book “ Canada” by Richard Ford.

Tuesday, May 14 (10 a.m.) CONVERSATION WITH ELEANOR AND LUCRETIA – Two American women from different generations share their differences and commonalities. Eleanor Roosevelt and Lucretia Garfield meet over tea and discuss their paths to the White House and beyond. Discover how they dealt with marriage difficulties, mothers in law, children and politics. These two educated, intelligent women also examine their early self-esteem issues and how they grew beyond them into strong, independent and formidable widows. This program is presented in collaboration with Dwyer Senior Center.

Wednesday, May 22 (7 p.m.) SONGS OF BOB DYLAN – (Rescheduled from May 1) Blending rich vocal harmonies with guitar, bass and harmonica, Muscle and Bone interpret the music of Bob Dylan. Enjoy a concert of familiar favorites and lesser known gems by an American master.

Saturday, May 4 (2 p.m.) VIDEO GAME CREATION: HATCHLING DEFENDER – For grades 5 and up. Explore making your own video games using GameMaker 8.1 Lite. Create original graphics, import music and build “Hatchling Defender” the video game. Bring a jump drive to save your game!

Saturday, May 4 (11 a.m.) CALLING ALL SUPERHEROES – For ages 4-10. Come as your favorite superhero and get in on some super fun! Try our superhero games, contests and crafts, plus get a free comic book!

Thursday, May 23 (3:30 p.m.) JUNIOR ENGINEERING CLUB – For ages 8-12. Bring your ideas and imagination! Get together once a month with other students and have fun creating all kinds of structures.
