WHS Shakespeare Club stages groundbreaking production

Justin Godfrey and Jack Wanhannen engage swords during the Shakespeare Club's performance of "Macbeth."

On May 18, the student-directed show of "Macbeth" adopted all of the key elements and maintained the integrity of Shakespeare's piece while abridging it for high school actors and audiences.

A groundbreaking precedent in the school, the show was the first Shakespeare full stage production ever done by the Shakespeare Club, which is entirely separate of the school’s drama club.

Complete with witches, betrayal and murder, the show appealed to students and adults alike. It is only through popular support however, that the precedent set by this year’s actors can continue annually, as the operating budget of the show was less than $200, and the club has not yet found a teacher to take over when director Perry Elyaderani graduates in 2014.

Shakespeare Club will do another production next year; the date and production has yet to be announced.
