'Bell, Book & Candle' on stage now, fall classes begin soon at Huntington Playhouse
Huntington Playhouse is currently performing the classic comedy, “Bell, Book & Candle,” through Sept. 8. When a witch falls for a human, she has to wonder if her mystic powers will survive the relationship. Performances are on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and one Sunday matinee on Sept. 8 at 2 p.m.
The theatre is also taking registrations for their fall children’s theatre programs which have expanded to include students in grades 7 and 8.
Intro to Theater is an introductory class where students will learn the basic elements of theater with a fun Halloween theme and have instruction in acting and dancing. They will learn the step-by-step process of putting on a play. The class will culminate in a performance of a short play, "A Halloween Happening," based on the children's book by Adrienne Adams. Classes are for students in grades 1-4 and will take place Saturdays, Sept. 14 through Oct. 26, 9-10:30 a.m. Cost is $85.
Halloween on Broadway is an advanced class where students will explore the history of musical theater and learn how to be triple-threat performers. The classes will offer instruction in acting, singing and dancing while learning about shows with a Halloween twist such as Sweeney Todd, Jekyll and Hyde, Little Shop of Horrors, Phantom of the Opera and others. The class will culminate in a cabaret style performance showcasing the students performing songs, monologues/scenes and dances from the shows we study during class. Classes are for grades 5-8 and will be held on Saturdays, Sept. 14 through Oct. 26, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $100.
