St. Edward soccer team takes district title

The St. Edward Eagles soccer team receives the district championship trophy following their victory over St. Ignatius on Oct. 26.

The St. Edward Eagles soccer team clinched the district championship title for the second year in a row by defeating the St. Ignatius Wildcats on Oct. 26. The intense game between the crosstown rivals, played in the cold and rain, went through two overtime periods and to a penalty shoot out. 

The game was tied 1-1 before going into overtime. Penalty kicks for the Eagles were scored by Braden Davies (Westlake), Patrick Darby (Strongsville) and Timmy Jonas (Fairview Park). St. Ed’s goalie Nate Brown (LaGrange) came up with 3 big PK saves for the winning team.

Other members of the St. Edward’s soccer team include: Jonathon Poilpre, Alex Dudley, Ryan Hrusch, Chris Allen, Alex Grant, Will Fritz, Trevor Darst, Michael May, Julian Castro, Anthony Nauman, Collin Richards, Ryan Bradfield, Timmy Jonas, George Bruck, Nate Lizanich, Kurt Wysocki, Jordan Shalala, Toby Comer, Pat Walton, Terrence Edwards, Tyler Hrusch and Conner Werling.

The Eagles (13-3-4) lost to Mentor in the regional semifinals on Oct. 30.
