New cafe opens at Porter Library

Pulleys at Porter employee Peter Iaffaldano cuts the ribbon at the cafe's grand opening at Westlake Porter Public Library on Nov. 12.

Pulleys at Porter Café opened on Oct. 7 with a full menu of coffee, pastries, sandwiches and salads.

Pulleys is operated by SAW  Inc.– Solutions at Work – which is a nonprofit organization employing and training individuals with developmental disabilities. SAW was selected as the new café after a two-month long process that began after the previous café closed in February. Since then much effort has gone into preparing the café space, selecting and training staff, and acquiring the various local and state approvals needed to open.

“We’re thrilled to have a café again,” said Library Director Andrew Mangels. “And judging by the use it’s getting, library users are too.”

A grand opening celebration took place on Nov. 12.
