Annual Great Books for Kids list is at the Bay Library

The annual Great Books for Kids list is here just in time for gift-giving and reading together! It’s the list of the very best recent publications for kids of all ages compiled by the people who know books best! From titles for birth to age 18, to family read-alouds, this list can be found online at www.ccplgreatbooksforkids.org. Click on the age range you’re interested in and you’ll find several great titles and summaries of the books. Also, at the bottom of the home page, you can access lists from previous years. On every book summary page there is a link to request the book from the library right there, or add it to your Wish List for gift giving.

Some examples of the titles include:

Ages Birth to 4 Years

"Little Mouse" by Alison Murray
A little girl explains how she does not always fit the nickname of "little mouse" that her mother gave her. Sometimes she feels as brave as a lion or as loud as an elephant.

"Slow Snail" by Mary Murphy
Slowly creeping her way through various objects such as a boot and a brick, a little snail is on her way to dinner. Little ones will enjoy following snail's silvery trail throughout the simple story.

Ages 9 to 11 Years

"Boy on the Porch" by Sharon Creech
One morning Marta and John discover a boy fast asleep on their porch with a crumpled note asking them to care for him awhile. The boy does not speak, but has a great talent for the arts.

"Kid Pickers: How to Turn Junk Into Treasure" by Mike Wolfe and Lily Sprengelmeyer, illustrated by Mike Right
Discover treasures at garage sales, flea markets and among family heirlooms with tips from the creator and star of the History Channel’s "American Pickers."

Family Selections

"I Scream, Ice Cream!: A Book of Wordles" by Amy Krouse Rosenthal, illustrated by Serge Bloch
Wordles are "groups of words that sound exactly the same but mean different things." Families will enjoy guessing the matching wordles such as "heroes" and "he rows."

"Meet the Marvel Super Heroes" by Scott Peterson, illustrated by Pat Olliffe and Hi-Fi Design
Comic fans of all ages will enjoy learning about familiar characters like the Hulk and Captain America, as well as lesser known heroes like Sunspot and Gamora.

Check out the Great Books display in the Children’s Department at the Bay Village Branch Library and pick up a flyer that provides more information and the website so you can access all of the titles. Happy reading!
