Bay Village resident and Magnificat student Megan Fenner receives a $1,000 check from Father Jim Huvane of the Maryknoll Priests for her award-winning essay.

Bay resident Megan Fenner, a senior at Magnificat High School, was awarded a $1,000 scholarship in the 25th annual Maryknoll Student Essay Contest. The theme of the contest was “The Pope, The Poor AND YOU,” and asked students to consider the call of Pope Francis to follow Jesus in serving the poor, and then to explain how they see this occurring, or not occurring, in daily life.

The contest received an overwhelming 11,834 essays, a record number of responses. To read Megan’s award-winning essay “Called to Sow Hope,” visit www.maryknollsociety.org/winners.
