FEATURED STUDENT: Serena Zirkle

Serena Zirkle, second-grader at Hilliard Elementary School

Serena Zirkle, a second-grader at Hilliard Elementary School, wrote a story entitled “The Princess and her Family” that was featured on Green Screen Adventures, a national children’s series and website that features stories written and illustrated by students in grades one through eight.

Serena’s story featured Princess Serena, who was going to deliver a concert when she and her family were kidnapped. Princess Serena saved the day and was able to help her family and friends to the concert at the castle. Her story also had a message, “Be careful at concerts because you never know what’s going to happen.”

Serena’s father, Stephen Zirkle, said Serena and her older sister Sierra, a fifth-grader at Parkside Intermediate School, both love to write stories on Green Screen and usually do so on Saturdays for some quiet time. Sierra published a couple of stories and inspired Serena to submit her stories. Serena combined her love of princesses, gymnastics and the Disney XD show “Kickin’ It,” about a martial arts center, to create “The Princess and her Family” story that was picked up by Green Screen.

You can view Serena’s story on the Green Screen Adventures website at greenscreenadventures.tv/the-princess-and-her-family.
