Upcoming programs at Bay Village Branch Library

With Halloween just around the corner, now is the perfect time to stop by the Bay Village Branch Library to grab those horror movies or books that will help put a fright in your Halloween night. And remember, if you don't see what you're looking for, our librarians will be happy to assist you with ordering the titles you need.

From a Bay Village author presenting and signing his debut novel to a Pied Piper of Hamelin puppet show, the Bay Village Branch Library has a variety of events coming up in the next couple of weeks. Check out the listings below to find details on our upcoming programs.  

If you're looking for some great bargains, the Friends of the Bay Village Library book sale is where you'll want to be, starting Saturday, Oct. 25. Browse the many tables of books, DVDs and CDs and stock up on your reading, viewing or listening materials for the cold months ahead. The sale concludes on Tuesday, Oct. 28.

CHILDREN'S DEPARTMENT

Tuesday, Oct. 14 (7 p.m.) Tots Dance and Music – Families with children ages 2-1/2 to 6 years will have a great time dancing and moving to music with bean bags, scarves and more! Get your boogie shoes on and feel the beat! Registration is required. Register each child's name individually.

Wednesdays, Oct. 15 and 22 (9:30 a.m.) Baby & Me Storytime – For caregivers and their children ages birth to 18 months. Join us for rhymes, songs, fingerplays and books.

Wednesdays, Oct. 15 and 22 (7 p.m.); Fridays, 17 and 24 (9:30 a.m.) Family Storytime – Children of all ages and their adult caregiver are invited to join us for stories, songs and fingerplays.

Thursdays, Oct. 16 and 23 (11 a.m.) and Tuesday, Oct. 28 (1:30 p.m.) Preschool Storytime – Caregivers and their children ages 3-5 (not yet in kindergarten) are invited to join us for rhymes, songs, fingerplays and stories.

Thursday, Oct. 16 (4 p.m.) Cookies and Books – Children in grades 3-4 are invited to enjoy cookies as we discuss a good book. Copies of the book will be available one month before the discussion. A parent/guardian must sign a release form before the program. Refreshments sponsored by the Friends of the Bay Village Library.

Friday, Oct. 17 (11 a.m.) Puppet Show "The Pied Piper of Hamelin" – Bring the whole family for a rollicking good time as Nancy Sander's Puppets with Pizazz! present "The Pied Piper of Hamelin" starring the rat-a-ma-taz rats. Sponsored by the Friends of the Bay Village Branch.

Monday, Oct. 20 (4:30 p.m.) National Chemistry Week: The Sweet Side of Chemistry (Candy) – Come join us for fun, hands-on activities and experiments. Be prepared to get in and get messy as we explore the chemistry involved in candy and confections. Led by volunteers from the American Chemical Society. We invite families to stay and participate. For grades 3-6. Registration required.

Tuesday, Oct. 21 (1:30 p.m.) Whooo's Ready for School? Kindergarten Readiness: Colors – Help your preschooler make the transition into their first year of school. Explore hands-on activity color stations together. Strengthen observation and fine motor skills.

TEEN DEPARTMENT

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (3:15 p.m.) Teen Zone – Video games, challenges, art and more – join us for something fun to do after school most every Tues/Wed/Thurs! Check for details. Parents need to sign one permission form, good for all of the fall programs. Programs provided courtesy of the Friends of the Bay Village Branch.

ADULT DEPARTMENT

Wednesday, Oct. 22 (7:00 p.m.) George McNulty: The Trieste Intrigue – Join us as Bay Village resident George McNulty presents his debut novel, "The Trieste Intrigue." Based upon a little-known statement of the Italian Court found during research of historical events of 1981, the novel features Colin McHugh an international business manager. McHugh inadvertently becomes embroiled in the plot to assassinate the pope. A book sale and signing will follow the presentation.
