WHS girls swim/dive team earns top academic honors

The WHS girls swim/dive team had the highest team GPA in the state for the third consecutive year.

The Westlake High School girls swim/dive team earned the Scholar Team Award from the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association (NISCA) for having the highest team GPA in Ohio for the third consecutive year.

The team maintains a 3.856 GPA, earning them a Gold Level Award. The award recognizes academic success in the classroom for the entire swimming, diving and water polo teams, as well as athletic success in the pool.

“Earning the Top GPA in the state for three consecutive years speaks to the commitment and diligence of this team,” said coach Jessica Dye. “Their excellence goes beyond the pool. These girls exemplify what the term student-athlete means. They are strong role models for our community, and I am proud to be their coach.”

Letter winners include seniors Christa Beyer, Colleen Hoke, Madeline Lee and Elise Brizes; juniors Becca Blair, Cory Carmichael, Maggie Guilfoyle and Becca Prexta; and graduates Hannah McCarthy, Beth Raiff, Carson Greco, Sarah Hannibal, Fran Blair and Allie Beckwith. Nine of these athletes also qualified for the district meet.

The WHS boys swim/dive team earned a Bronze Level Award for maintaining a 3.467 team GPA, placing them sixth in the state.
