Westlake Schools CFO named to accounting advisory council

Westlake Schools CFO/Treasurer Mark C. Pepera was one of six new members appointed to the Governmental Accounting Standards Advisory Council (GASAC).

Pepera will serve a two-year term beginning Jan. 1, 2015, and represents the Association of School Business Officials International. The appointment was made by the board of trustees of the Financial Accounting Foundation, which is responsible for the oversight, administration and finances of the Financial Accounting Standards Board and the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).

The GASAC is responsible for advising the GASB – the independent, not-for-profit organization that establishes financial accounting and reporting standards for state and local governments – on technical issues, project priorities and other matters that affect standard setting for accounting and financial reporting by state and local governments.

Pepera has been with the Westlake Schools since 1999. He has been named CFO of the Year and earned the Ohio Association of School Business Officials Distinguished Services Award-NE Region, Government Finance Officers Association Financial Reporting Award and State of Ohio Award for Early Implementation of Governmental Accounting Standards Board 33 and 34. He is a designated Registered School Business Official.

In service to his profession, Pepera is a member of the Association of School Business Officials International, where he serves on the Board of Directors. He also is a member and past president of the Ohio Association of School Business Officials and sits on the Board to the Suburban Health Consortium.

GASAC members represent a cross-section of the board’s state and local government stakeholders and are selected based on their professional expertise, and depth and variety of experience they bring to their work on the council.
