Nautical-themed art show accompanies production of 'Shipwrecked'

"Windswept Sea" by Tom Hemsath

Members of the West Shore Aquarelle Watercolor Society are displaying 24 original watercolor paintings in the lobby of the Clague Playhouse at 1371 Clague Road in Westlake through May 26. The art show is in conjunction with the theatrical production of “Shipwrecked! An Entertainment,” which runs May 1-24 at the Playhouse.

The theme of the art show is boats, ships and nautical scenes. The Society show consists of paintings by nine of the Society members: Linda Borton, Barbara Hall, Thomas Hemsath, Howard Hoehn, Susanne Kizzen, Bob Parry, Marge Strimbu, Barbara Swasey and William Wilder. Most of the paintings are for sale. The lobby gallery is open to the public during box office hours, Wednesdays through Saturdays, 1-6 p.m., during the May production of the play "Shipwrecked."

The Aquarelle Society was organized in 1996 with six artists from the West Shore area. Today the membership consists of 18 local artists painting for personal enjoyment, artistic fulfillment and professional development. The Society members have many years of painting experience and each is an accomplished watercolorist participating in local and regional art shows and juried competitions. The Society also organizes art shows of members' work at local galleries.
