Bridget Elias hired as new WHS assistant principal

Bridget Elias

Bridget Elias, Avon Lake High School English Department chair, was named the new assistant principal at Westlake High School.

Elias replaces Dave Schindler, who was named principal of Dover Intermediate School.

Elias taught AP English, English 9-12, reading, remedial English and TV production at Avon Lake High School for 18 years. She was the chair of the English Department for 13 years. Prior to that she taught English and reading in the Maple Heights City Schools for five years.

In Avon Lake, Elias helped develop the advanced placement curriculum, added four Post Secondary Education Options (now College Credit Plus) to the curriculum and coordinated teacher professional development. She also was the television coordinator, providing televised broadcasts and programming for the high school and district. Her experiences span problem solving, building management, curriculum, master scheduling, meeting facilitation and professional development implementation.

“Bridget has a wealth of classroom and leadership experience in education,” said Superintendent Geoff Palmer. “We’re excited about what she brings to the district in curriculum and state testing experience. Her expertise in reading and writing also will be an advantage for our high school.”

Elias earned her undergraduate degree in broadcast journalism from Kent State University. She completed graduate work at Baldwin Wallace University and Ashland University. She is a Martha Holden Jennings Scholar and received the Outstanding Service to Children Awards.

“I’m very excited to join the Westlake City Schools. It’s a great district,” Elias said. “My vision for students is to not only meet the state standards that serve as the basis for our educational goals, but to stimulate them further by making them life-long learners.”

Elias lives in Avon Lake with her husband, John, and sons Shane, 19, and Ian, 16.
