New Silver Sneakers classes starting at Bay Senior Center in July
Silver Sneakers Strength and Balance and Tai Chi classes are now available in Bay Village at the Dwyer Senior Center! Those seniors who have Silver Sneakers as part of their Medicare Advantage health plan may attend classes for free! Drop-ins are also welcome.
The Strength and Balance classes will be offered Tuesday mornings at 9 a.m. beginning July 7, and Thursdays beginning July 9 at 1 p.m. This class allows participants to have fun and move to music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activities for daily living. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a ball are provided for resistance. A chair is available if needed for seated or standing support. Instructor is Sheri Lugo, our excellent and long-time Zumba instructor.
Silver Sneakers Wu-style long-form Tai Chi will be offered on Mondays at 10 a.m. beginning July 20, and QiGong simplified 24-form on Fridays from 10:30 a.m. to noon, starting Friday, July 24. In addition, two FREE Tai Chi demonstrations will be held at the Dwyer Center on Wednesday, July 8, from 11 a.m. to noon, and Friday, July 10, from 1:30-2:30 p.m.
Tai Chi and Qigong are ancient methods of improving and maintaining good health through gentle movement. Unlike the typical fast-paced exercise program, one often leaves Tai Chi class feeling relaxed and energized.
