WHS achieves LEED Silver status

Westlake High School achieved LEED Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.

LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification identifies WHS as a showcase example of sustainable design. The WHS project earned LEED Silver certification by scoring 54 points from the key areas measured:

  • Sustainable sites
  • Water efficiency
  • Energy and atmosphere
  • Materials and resources
  • Indoor environmental quality
  • Innovation in design
  • Regional priority

“This designation reaffirms the school district’s commitment to provide ongoing sustainability through engineering and design projects,” said Dave Kocevar, director of business affairs. “Energy efficient utility systems and environmentally friendly building products were used in all phases of the construction project.”

The new WHS opened to students and staff for the 2013-2014 school year.
