Demon Fest planned to add international flair to WHS hallways

A group of Westlake High School students are organizing a Demon Fest rock/acoustic concert with pop music to raise money to adorn the hallways of the high school with international flags.

Leadership Challenge’s Diversity group was working on the international flag installation the past two years, but the project stalled. Junior Austin Goetz, an International Baccalaureate (IB) student from Avon Lake, revived the project as part of his IB Creativity, Activity, Services project.

Austin and Leadership Challenge’s Diversity group teamed with Leadership Challenge’s School Spirit group to organize a concert promoting the musical talent of WHS students. The concert will take place Saturday, March 19, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

“Our goal is to eventually have every nation represented with a flag – one continent in each wing,” said WHS senior Nick Albainy of Leadership Challenge. “Obviously, this is the beginning of a long-term project.”

The event will feature performances by the band Atlas, whose members are seniors Alex Ikezawa, Nate Hofford, Jack Routhier, Taeho Kim and Ruan Zubricky. Other performances will be delivered by junior Jacob Boarman; senior Jared Wolfert, sophomore Nikki Miller and senior Tori Cohen; junior Jeremy McCabe; junior Leah Choban; and juniors Sara Massa and Gina Bowser. Donated baked goods will be sold as concessions at the event.

Tickets will be $5 in advance at WHS, or $6 at the door.
