Jazz is main course at WWAC brunch
Three outstanding musicians will provide a gourmet serving of jazz at the Westlake-Westshore Arts Council’s Jazz Brunch on Sunday, April 23, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Westwood Country Club in Rocky River. In addition to fine food, guests will be treated to the blended sounds of the bass by Ann Gilbert, piano by Dan Maier, and drums/percussion by Bill Marx.
Condensing the musical profiles of these exceptional musicians, does not diminish their weight. Gilbert is the principal bassist with Cleveland Pops, Akron Symphony and Blue Water Chamber Orchestra. Maier is a former member of Blood Sweat and Tears and is currently a member of the North Coast Jazz Collective. Marx, who has his own jazz ensemble, plays in area big bands, local orchestras and Brazilian ensembles.
The April 23 brunch may draw some groupies from the May 2016 standing-room-only audience that attended “Bass Extravaganza” by Ann Gilbert and “friends” at Westlake Porter Public Library. At that program, presented by the WWAC, Gilbert’s “friends” included Maier and Marx. The overflow audience was riveted through the mix of music and a multi-faceted trip which included "Take the 'A' Train" by Billy Srayhorn and "Effendi" by McCoy Tyner. The audience spontaneously responded with a standing ovation.
That premier performance gave birth to the upcoming Jazz Brunch, which will benefit the WWAC’s scholarship fund. The WWAC invites one and all to experience this great music in a fun gathering while supporting scholarships to help the next generation to pursue their areas of interest.
Tickets for Jazz Brunch are $35. The event will feature a cash bar, silent and Chinese actions, and a 50/50 raffle. For more information call 440-250-5565 or go to w-wac.org.
