Westlake Council of PTAs announces Reflections art contest winners

Aidan Scheuer, Alia Manaf and Christine Xiao earned awards for their artwork from the Ohio PTA.

The Westlake Council of PTAs held its 2017-2018 Reflections Art Show & Judging on Nov. 30, 2017, at Westlake Porter Public Library, and top entries recently advanced to the Ohio PTA State Reflections Competition.

This year’s PTA Reflections theme was "Within Reach" and the following students won their divisions in the following categories at the Art Show & Judging on Nov. 30: Alia Manaf, Ella Navratil and Leah Bunner, literature; Christine Xiao and Aidan Scheuer, music composition; Brandan McLaughlin, Zachary Baker and Kaitlin Willi, photography; and Gus Gibbs, Ella Wright, Alex Spring and Macy Sinreich, visual arts.

Westlake Council of PTAs is proud to announce that three of these submissions earned awards from the Ohio PTA: Alia Manaf’s "An Awesome Figure Skater" earned an Award of Merit in Literature (Primary Grade Division), Christine Xiao’s "Spring" earned an Award of Merit in Music Composition (Intermediate Division), and Aidan Scheuer’s "Fluid Dynamics" earned an Award of Excellence in Music Composition (Middle School Division). Since Aidan’s entry placed first in the state of Ohio, it will advance to the National PTA level for judging.

Founded in 1969, the National PTA Reflections program engages nearly 300,000 students and their families in arts education activities each year – encouraging students to explore the arts for fun and recognition. PTA Reflections is a nationally acclaimed student recognition program to encourage artistic creativity in the classroom and at home. Students of all grades and abilities may participate, and students from all seven Westlake City schools took part in this year’s program.
