Westlake High School senior, Catherine “Kate” Fulton, was awarded the third annual Jeffery Owen Marriott Memorial Scholarship at the Senior Awards Banquet Night. Fulton was selected from a strong pool of applicants based on her academic prowess, leadership roles at school, community involvement, and athletic success at Westlake – all attributes of WHS 1992 alum, Jeffery Marriott, for whom the scholarship honors.

Fulton ranks within the top 15 of her senior class, with a current weighted GPA of 4.863. She is a member of both the National Honor Society and National Spanish Honor Society. In addition, Fulton has been awarded for being a scholar athlete by the Student Athletic Leadership committee and became a member of The Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association Scholarship Society earlier this year.

“Kate is obviously gifted academically,” said Kelly Pojman, who serves on the board of the Foundation. “What impressed us the most however, was her involvement within the community and her caring, compassionate nature.”  Fulton has spent countless hours volunteering with the non-profit organization Youth Challenge, teaching at Westlake’s Safety Town to kindergarteners and serving within her parish. “We feel Kate embodies the core values of the Marriott Scholarship including having a strong character, ambition, leadership and empathy for others.”

Fulton will attend Butler University in the fall to pursue a degree in journalism.
