Your destination should be Bay Village June 16

Do you want arts, crafts, antiques, music, bicycling, great food and family-style fun? Then “Destination Bay” is the answer.

Once again, a number of Bay Village organizations are teaming up to provide a unique community experience under the umbrella of Destination Bay. This full day of family-friendly events takes place on Saturday, June 16, all around the city. 

Free shuttle transportation to all Destination Bay locations will be available, courtesy of O’Neill Healthcare.

Visitors to any of the Destination Bay locations will have a chance to win prizes! Pick up a Walgreens “Passport to Fitness” at Cahoon Park and have it stamped as you travel between the events.

1. Project Pedal

The Project Pedal charitable bike ride to benefit Village Project will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event begins and ends at Cahoon Memorial Park. Routes include the Pea Pod Pedal for young preschoolers, the Sprout Route for children 6 years and under on two-wheelers, and for all ages – the  Cucumber Course (six miles), Kale Trail (15 miles), and the Artichoke Adventure (30 miles). Complete route maps for each ride, as well as registration information, are available on the Village Project website, ourvillageproject.com. Register by June 6 to receive a free T-shirt. Free safety classes and bike checks for registered riders will be offered by Village Bicycle Cooperative on Saturday, June 9, 8:30-10 a.m., or Wednesday, June 13, 6-7 p.m.

2. Village Bicycle Cooperative

Pedal on over to the Village Bicycle Cooperative from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a fun game and a chance to win a prize! Or you can just stop by to cool off with a Popsicle and check out our shop. Our knowledgeable mechanics will also be on hand to answer any questions or offer support on bike repairs. We have a full bike shop available for use by the community and would like to help you grow as a bike mechanic with some hands-on experience!

3. Cahoon in June

The 49th annual “Cahoon in June” fine crafts, collectibles and antiques event will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Cahoon Memorial Park. Admission is free. There will be a bubble soccer tournament at 11:30 a.m. in the park, and a display of antique cars and boats. Musical entertainment will be classic rock provided by Bay Village bands Ground State in the morning and OMF in the afternoon. Food concessions are the Pierogi Lady, Carhop’s Mobile Diner and Pap’s Kettle Korn. There will be face painting for the children. Rose Hill Museum, Reuben Osborn Learning Center and Cahoon log cabin will be open. Interested community groups are invited to set up tables free of charge. 4. BAYarts Art & Music Festival

The BAYarts campus will be hosting over 60 artisan vendors of handmade jewelry, photography, watercolors, candles, fine woodworking, sea glass art and more. Concessions by the food trucks Melted Fusion, The Manna Truck, The Smoothie Cupboard and more. Live music is provided by Rey Citron’s Rice and Beans Band. This free event runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is dog-friendly.

5. Lake Erie Nature & Science Center

Discovery awaits at Lake Erie Nature & Science Center! Join us from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a special selection of FREE star shows in Schuele Planetarium to engage the whole family. Travel through space, explore constellations and visit different planets in the Solar System. Don’t forget to enjoy the Center’s free indoor and outdoor exhibits, and meet some of our animal ambassadors up close with the help of Project Wildlife students! Schedule: Twinkle Tots, 10:30 a.m.; Stellar Stars, 11 a.m.; Adventures in Space, 11:30 a.m.; Sky Tonight, 1 p.m.; Full Dome Show, 2 p.m.

6. Bay Fire Department

Everyone is invited to come and join us for a day of fun in the sun at the Fire Station from noon to 3 p.m. We’ll have refreshments, tours of the fire trucks, fire safety information, and the chance for kids to shoot water from a real fire hose!

7. Bay Village Library

Maker Fun: Screenprinting and Makey Makey during library open hours 9 a.m to 5:30 p.m. Decorate a tote bag to carry your books for summer reading using screenprinting, vinyl stencils and ink. Learn to turn everyday objects such as bananas and clay into controllers using Makey Makey invention kits. Outback Ray’s Amazing Animal Show will be from 2 to 3 p.m.

Walgreens Passport to Fitness

Walgreens will have a table set up in Cahoon Park to be a healthy and fun destination for everyone visiting. Stop at each event during Destination Bay and enter to win an activity tracker and other great prizes as you tour all the venues. Simply pick up your “Passport to Fitness” at the Walgreens table in Cahoon Park, get it stamped (look for the tables with red balloons at all the events), and when completed, hand it in at any red balloon location to be eligible for prizes.
