Mid-July events at Westlake Porter Public Library

Tuesday, July 21 (9:30-10 a.m.) Lapsit Storytime – Join Miss Jamie on Zoom for a live Lapsit Storytime for ages birth-24 months with a caregiver. Registration begins July 14. Participants must provide an email address to receive Zoom instructions, which will be sent the day of the event.

Tuesdays, July 21 and 28 and Thursdays, July 23 and 30 (11-11:30 a.m.) Storytime Online – Join us on Facebook, Twitter or YouTube as we stream a live storytime!

Tuesday, July 21 (7-8:15 p.m.) Gender Trouble: Exploring Why Gender Identity is So Contested (Online) – Join Dr. Molly Merryman as she shares historical and cultural context to trans and other non-binary gender identities. Dr. Merryman, Ph.D., is the founding director of the Center for Gender and Sexuality and an associate professor of sociology at Kent State. Please register. Participants must provide an email address to receive Zoom instructions.

Wednesday, July 22 (11-11:30 a.m.) Sing and Dance! (Zoom) – Join Miss Nancy on Zoom to sing and dance! Please register. Participants must provide an email address to receive Zoom instructions, which will be sent the day of the program.

Wednesday, July 22 (1-1:30 p.m.) Preschool Storytime (Zoom) – Ages 3.5 to 5 with a caregiver. Registration begins July 15. Participants must provide an email address to receive Zoom instructions, which will be sent the day of the program.

Wednesday, July 23 (All Day) Virtual Calling Crafters: Library Card Mini-Notebook – Learn how to make yourself a mini-notebook! You will need a glue stick and a ¼-inch single hole punch. Other materials provided. Registration begins July 16. Participants must provide an email address to receive instructions about when to pick up materials and how to access the webinar.

Thursday, July 23 (10-10:30 a.m.) Toddler Storytime (Zoom) – For ages 2-3.5 with a caregiver. Registration begins July 16. Participants must provide an email address in order to receive Zoom instructions, which will be emailed the day of the program. 

Thursdays, July 23 and 30 (3:30-4:30 p.m.) WPPL Roblox Club – Love Roblox? We have a few private servers set up for Tweens in grades 4-6 to hang out with their friends and enjoy some of the most popular games. Please register separately for each session. Participants must provide an email address to receive Zoom instructions, which will be sent the day of the program. We'll keep the Zoom meeting going for anyone who wants to chat while playing or if you have any tech questions. Grades 4-6.

Tuesday, July 28 (3-4 p.m.) Hunger Games Book Club Online – In this Book Club, we're reading through the "Hunger Games" series in chronological order! Please read "Mockingjay" (and watch the two films too!). Please register. Participants must provide an email address to receive Zoom instructions, which will be sent the day of the event.

Tuesday, July 28 (7-8 p.m.) From Bad to Better? LGBTQ Inclusion in Hollywood – Join us for an interactive tour through the years as we look at the ways Hollywood has portrayed LGBTQ+ characters over the past 100 years. Registration begins July 14. Participants must provide an email address to receive Zoom instructions.

Wednesday, July 29 (All Day) Storybook Craft Pick-Up – Celebrate some favorite storybooks with crafts! Stop by the Youth Services Department and pick up a bag filled with all materials needed to complete your crafts. While supplies last.

Wednesday, July 29 (11-11:30 a.m.) Stories and Signs Online – Join us Facebook, Twitter or YouTube to enjoy a storytime while learning a few words in sign language! Ages 0-3.

Thursday, July 30 (9 a.m.-8:30 p.m.) Teen Crafts (Pick-Up) – Stop by Youth Services to pick up your craft kit while supplies last.
