Westlake Goodwill store seeks donations

Goodwill is asking the communities of Westlake and Bay Village to make a special effort to donate items as they are in urgent need of donations.

Goodwill opened its Westlake store/donation center in March providing an opportunity for the community to shop thousands of books and specialty wares for a fraction of retail prices, as well as donate their unused items.

While the retail portion is a bookstore, Goodwill accepts more than books at the convenient drive-up donation center. Think everything from household goods like kitchen wares, small appliances, pots & pans, home decor & knick-knacks to clothing, electronics, toys, baskets, furniture, and more! These items ultimately support a comprehensive network of outreach programs that help thousands in the community.

The retail bookstore and donation center, located at 30655 Detroit Road, in Westlake near Crocker Park, is the first bookstore for Goodwill Industries of Greater Cleveland and East Central Ohio.

Individuals throughout the community are encouraged to gather unused items and organizations, churches and neighborhoods having garage sales are encouraged to bring their unsold items and donate them.

“Your closet, cupboards and storage unit are more powerful than you think,” said Vice President of Donated Goods Bryant Taylor.

"The community of Westlake has welcomed and supported us and we’re very happy to be a part of this close-knit community," added Taylor. "Donations and shopping at our stores are vital steps to keeping our 'Cycle of Success' going."

The "Cycle of Success" is Goodwill's way of describing how goods are donated, then sold. Funds from those sales go to support vital mission programs.

“Revenue from our stores serve as the primary funder of outreach programs that Goodwill offers like employment services, family strengthening programs, rape crisis services and other community outreach,” Taylor said.

Goodwill has been serving Cuyahoga County through its missions programming for many years impacting more than 14,000 individuals in the community. This is its first retail bookstore location in Goodwill’s local history.
