School group visits Westlake for day of service

Christian Community School, an independent, evangelical Christian school that was founded in Westlake in 1994 before expanding to North Eaton, returned to its roots for a day of community service.
Every year, CCS hosts its May Workathon in which students, staff and parents volunteer service hours by forming work teams that go into the community and neighboring communities to witness about Jesus’ love while assisting with projects that clean-up, refurbish, complete yard work, assist the elderly and meet needs.
This year’s Workathon theme was Mission Possible as the school community in work teams went out on Friday, May 4, to make a difference and live their faith through service. An ice cream treat and assembly followed this outstanding day of volunteering.
Gabe, John, Lukas and Jeremy, four fantastic CCS third-grade boys, with parent Dan Miller and wheelbarrow, arrived in Westlake shortly after 9 a.m. to tackle the moving of seven yards of mulch. First the hardworking crew pulled the numerous and colorful weeds.
Three hours later, Elissa, Emily, Abbey, Susanna, Isabella and Lilia, all CCS fifth-grade girls, with parent Tammy Boey, arrived to assist in spreading the mulch throughout the flower beds. However, at 2 p.m. their time ran out, so after school, parent Dean Poore and teacher Abe Edwards returned with Dan Miller to finish the project.
Art teacher Karen Doane joined the crew as they were finishing up this wonderful Mission Possible project. The Workathon and the school vibrate with Jesus’ dynamic and embracing love for all children as they serve their communities and senior citizens to the glory of God.
