Westlake Garden Club installs officers for 2013

Westlake Garden Club's officers for 2013 are, from left, Bill Hock, Jean Smith, Sally Knurek, Claire Evangelista, Regina McCarthy and Marie McCarthy.

The private room at Houlihan’s Restaurant in Westlake had a festive air on Dec. 20, as the Westlake Garden Club celebrated the holidays with a luncheon and installation of officers for 2013. The new board consists of: Regina McCarthy, President; Bill Hock, 1st Vice President; Jean Smith, 2nd Vice President; Marie McCarthy, Treasurer; Sally Knurek and Marge Emblom, Recording Secretary; and Claire Evangelista, Corresponding Secretary.

Following the installation of officers and lunch, the group was entertained by Cleveland violinist Mary Beth Ions, performing her solo show, “Violin: Up Close and Personal.” In addition to being an accomplished musician, she has a wonderful, outgoing personality. She delighted the club members and guests with holiday music, old standards and some classical pieces. In between songs, she gave an entertaining monologue about herself, other people and amusing events.

The Westlake Garden Club celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2013 with several events in the planning stages, including a luncheon in September. The club’s first meeting of the new year will be on Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 11 a.m. at Westlake Porter Public Library. The speaker will be Ron Zayac from Canterbury Creek Gardens. Guests are always welcome.
