Cleveland's Rust Belt group takes over BAYarts

A segment of the most recent mural the monsters created at the Ingenuity Festival.

They do it collaboratively, they do it spontaneously and they do it live! Cleveland’s Rust Belt Monster Collective is comprised of six area artists and they make improvisational artwork as a group all before the public’s eye. Named “Best Local Artist” by Scene Magazine, the team is made up of Tim Switalski, Randy Crider, Erin Schechtman, Craig Worrell, Ben Hale and Jim Giar.

The collaborative efforts of this amazing assemblage has just wrapped up a 15-hour stint at Cleveland’s Ingenuity Festival where they completed a 24-foot mural over two days. Two such murals hang at BAYarts where the group will take over the Dianne Boldman Gallery through October.

Using unconventional canvases and their unique blended style, the monsters will breathe new life into forgotten objects. Their debut show opens Oct. 11 at BAYarts with a reception from 7-9 p.m. For details, visit bayarts.net or rustbeltmonster.com.
