Spend some time this October at the Clague House Museum

The new Ohio Historical Marker at the Clague House Museum.

During October our thoughts at the museum turn to crisp fall air, hot beverages, good books and a few good ghost stories.

The Westlake Historical Society invites you into the historic Clague House for a hot cup of coffee, tea or cider and the opportunity to spend some time with the members of the society as we once again open the museum kitchen for our popular pre-owned book sales. Stop in to peruse the books for sale and help the Historical Society scholarship funds.

All money raised during the book sales will go toward the two scholarships: The Leverett & Abigail Johnson Scholarship goes to a Westlake student in the field of history. The Bill & Jean Robishaw Scholarship goes to a deserving student in the field of education. Both scholarships will be awarded in 2014.

The book sales will take place on Saturdays, Oct. 19 and 26, from 8 a.m to 4 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 27, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. In addition to the book sale, a silent auction will also be held including a wonderful Ohio State University framed picture. If you are lucky you might get to hear a fabulous ghost story or two during your visit.

Do you have books, magazines, CDs or maps you would like to donate? We are accepting donations until Oct. 15. We are happy to pick up your donation. Please give us a call at 440-808-1961, or drop us an email at westlakehistory@yahoo.com.

On Oct. 27 the Clague House Museum will host a Kids Sunday and tours of the Clague House. Westlake Police Captain Guy Turner will be our guest docent and will lead tours of the museum. Capt. Turner always brings a unique element to the tours that you are sure to enjoy. There will also be Halloween-themed crafts for the kids. There is no cost to tour the museum, and no charge for the special kids activities. Donations, however are greatly appreciated. Tours of the museum are available throughout the year.

Please contact the society at 440-808-1961 or email westlakehistory@yahoo.com for more information. The Clague House, located at 1371 Clague Road, is more than a museum – it is a destination.
