On a drizzling afternoon on Friday the 13th, the sun peeked from behind the clouds over the Cahoon Park Rose Garden in Bay Village. That was the location where the American flag was raised and flown in honor of retiring Lt. Col. Patrick Huested of the United States Air Force who is retiring after 22 years of service. The American flag was also flown over the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.

Lt. Col. Huested requested that the flag be flown over the city that was instrumental to him as he was growing up. In attendance was his mother, Carolyn, and members of the Bay Village Police Department. From 1982-1986, Lt. Col. Huested was a Civil Air Patrol cadet as well as Cadet Commander at the Bay Lodge.
