BVPD adds 2 new officers

BVPD officer Greg Engel is sworn in by Mayor Deborah Sutherland.

Bay Village welcomed two new members to the police department last month. Gregory Engel and Ian Moore were sworn in as police officers in the council chambers of City Hall on Aug. 18. Both are attending the 18-week Lorain County Community College Police Academy that began Aug. 25. Upon graduation, they will complete a rigorous 14-week field training program.

Greg Engel was raised in Strongsville. He went to Strongsville High School and graduated from John Carroll University with a bachelor’s degree in marketing. Greg is the son of Geoff and Joanne Engel and has two older siblings: a brother, Joe, and a sister, Stephanie. In his free time, Greg enjoys hiking, fishing, exercising and classic/exotic cars. He also enjoys studying U.S. history, especially WWII and reading non-fiction books.

Ian Moore was born in Indianapolis, Ind. He was raised in Toledo and attended St. John’s Jesuit High School and Academy. Ian graduated in 2008. He then attended the University of Kentucky, earning a bachelor’s degree in sociology in 2011. During his college tenure, Ian was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. Ian is the son of Scott and Jackie Moore and has a younger brother, Austin. In his free time, Ian enjoys exercising and sports. He also enjoys reading up on international criminology and policing.

The City of Bay Village is pleased to welcome these fine young men.
