Modern art: Instagram exhibition at BAYarts through July
This month, the duo of gallery exhibitions at BAYarts will examine themes at the opposite ends of the spectrum.
In "Head 2 Head," Milan Kecman delves into the past. "Always having an interest in history, I decided to explore some of the faces and personalities of the past and the parallels their lives took. Their lives at times touched, as they took divergent or similar paths. I hope to give the viewer insight into some historical figures who have left a profound effect upon today's culture."
Taking the modern route, Christopher Gray has curated a selection of Instagram images in "Squared Up." "I'm amazed at the work I see on Instagram, mostly from people who do not consider themselves artists. I chose artists for this show based on their photos and feeds." Gray indicates that experiencing the exhibition will be as if the viewer were scrolling through Instagram, but in a much larger capacity. As for subject matters? They will vary. "The show is not tightly curated, but rather allows for happenstance that occurs in this community. The artwork will encompass a range of subject matter from food to portraits to a bit of whimsy."
The opening receptions for both exhibits are Friday, July 10, from 7-9 p.m. They will be open for viewing until July 31. During this time, the BAYarts campus will also have live music in a classic rock and folk vein, provided by Second Hand Dogs. Gallery coordinator Karen Petkovic says, "The music is a perfect component to our summer receptions; the entire campus buzzes with great energy."
