Group lights fuse on Bay Days fireworks fundraiser

A collection of Bay Village-themed items are available for sale, with proceeds going toward the fireworks celebration. All are available at city hall during business hours.

The fuse has been lit on the 2016 Bay Days Fireworks Fund fundraising efforts.

One half of the Fourth of July fireworks celebration is now privately funded (the other half is covered by the city), so a group of volunteers has for the past three years worked to raise money for the annual celebration of freedom.

Raffle tickets are now on sale to help raise funds for the 2016 Bay Days fireworks celebration. There are two different raffle prizes: A Cleveland Cavaliers ticket package and a one-year membership in the Freedom Boat Club.

The Cavs package includes tickets to 10 select games of the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2016/2017 season, plus membership in the Wine and Gold United, which confers numerous other benefits outside Cavaliers tickets, such as discounts on Monsters and Gladiators tickets and events. Tickets are in Sec. 227, Row 13, Seats 17 and 18, on the aisle and re-sellable. The winner will also receive a “swag bag” of Cavaliers merchandise.

The Freedom Boat Club prize is a one-year membership in the club, an $8,000 value. The winner will have unlimited use of a fleet of boats at all club locations, which includes the Rocky River, Sandusky and Catawba. The membership also includes reciprocal use of boats at any of the club’s 75 other locations nationwide. The club takes care of all maintenance costs, except fuel. For details visit freedomboatclub.com.

Raffle tickets for both prizes are $25 each or five for $100. They are on sale at by calling 216-386-5997, or emailing info@bayfireworks.org.

The winner of the Freedom Boat Club prize will be drawn on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29, so the winner can take advantage of the whole boating season. The winner of the Cavaliers raffle prize will be drawn July 4 at Bay Days.

Sunnyside Automobile Group will continue to be the official corporate sponsor of the Bay Days Fireworks Fund. The Westlake | Bay Village Observer will continue to be the media sponsor of the Bay Days Fireworks Fund.

The City of Bay Village is offering a line of Bay Village-themed printwear and other neat items. A new line of women's hoodie T-shirts and sweatshirts are now available for $28. New T-shirts with a compass design are available in both long and short sleeve. The short-sleeve shirts are $15; long sleeve $20. The city also is offering Bay Village-logo wine glasses for $8 each or two for $15; nice tote bags for $15 and car magnets for $3. All are available at city hall during regular business hours and at the Cahoon in June antique and craft show in Cahoon Memorial Park on Saturday, June 18.

Bay Village residents who would like to continue the tradition of the Bay Days fireworks show are encouraged to join the volunteer committee. The group's next meeting is Wednesday, April 13, 6 p.m. at the Bay Village Library. For more information call 216-386-5997 or visit bayfireworks.org.
