West Shore Film Series: Reproductive Rights
7:00 PM - 9:30 PM
Two films by social justice and human rights activist Dorothy Fadiman provide a powerful look back at the reproductive rights movement in the United States. Released in 1995, "From Danger to Dignity" weaves together two parallel stories: the evolution of underground networks that helped women find safe abortions outside the law, and the intensive efforts by activists and lawmakers to decriminalize abortion through legislative and judicial channels. Released in 2010 and focusing on the years after the decision of Roe v. Wade. "Fragile Promise of Choice" traces the backlash of anti-abortion forces and the erosion of access to safe abortions, cutbacks in funding, and sieges of harassment and violence which went on to set the stage for the subsequent reversal of Roe. Following the films, Jen Thurau, from Planned Parenthood, will be available to respond to questions.
(Film Length: 120 minutes. These films not rated. Free parking)
The film series is free and open to the public (donations gratefully accepted).
