Indoor Community Labyrinth Walk
2:00 PM - 5:00 PM
West Shore Unitarian Universalist Church invites the community to experience its indoor labyrinth. Labyrinths are used as walking meditations, to focus the mind and put the walker in tune with a spiritual reality greater than themselves. Labyrinths are typically formed as a circle with a singular meditative path leading to a center.

Drop in between 2-5 p.m. on Feb. 19 to experience one of humanity’s oldest spiritual symbols for yourself. There is no cost. The Labyrinth Walk is open to the community. It will be held in the church’s Baker Hall at 20401 Hilliard Boulevard, Rocky River. Reservations are not required. Two other Indoor Community Labyrinth Walks are planned for March 19 and April 16, both from 2-5 p.m. at the church.

According to Senior Minister Anthony Makar, “Today’s labyrinths are spiritually moving and invigorating experiences that can be transformative for the walker.”

He explained that “The labyrinth is perhaps one of the oldest symbols known to mankind. It is a profound symbol of the spiritual journey.” He explained that in the Middle Ages, for example, walking a cathedral labyrinth was a substitute for going on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. Not everyone could make the long and arduous journey to the Holy Land, so walking a labyrinth in a church was a devotional activity.”

Classic Silent Film Series with Organ Accompaniment
7:00 PM
West Shore UU Church's popular Classic Silent Film series returns on February 19, along with musical accompaniment on our restored Holtkamp organ by Music Director David Blazer. February's feature is a 1927 Academy Award winning film, "Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans." In "Sunrise," a sophisticated urban woman seduces a farmer in the hopes that he will murder his neglected wife and join her in the city. But he ends up rekindling his romance with his wife when she discovers their scheme. Many have called it the greatest film of the silent era.

The curtains and music go up at 7 pm in the church Sanctuary located at 20401 Hilliard Boulevard, Rocky River. The show is free and open to the community. For more information, call 440-333-2255. No reservations are required.

David Blazer, Director of Music, has written his own score for this film and is becoming popular for his silent film improvisations that enhance the moviegoer's experience.
