LWV announces historic candidate forums for historic election

In November, 2009, Cuyahoga County residents voted to restructure our County government to an Executive - Council form of government.  For the first time in county history, on November 2, 2010, voters will choose the Cuyahoga County Executive who will lead the new government, and elect their own County Council District Representative. Bay Village and Westlake are part of the newly-formed District 1, along with Fairview Park, North Olmsted, Rocky River and Olmsted Township, all except Precinct D.

The League of Women Voters is presenting two nonpartisan forums of particular interest to Bay Village and Westlake residents. Citizens are encouraged to attend.

First, the District 1 County Council Candidate Forum is set for Monday, September 20, 2010, 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., at Westlake Performing Arts Center, 27820 Hilliard Blvd. (located behind the high school). In partnership with the Westlake City School District.

Invitees will include winners of the September 7 primary election and Independents as listed on the official Board of Elections general election ballot for District 1.

Also, the West Side Candidate Forum for County Executive will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2010, from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., at Baldwin-Wallace College, Strosacker Hall (College Union), 120 E. Grand Street, Berea. In partnership with Baldwin-Wallace College.

The event is one of three League-sponsored County Executive Forums, the others being an East Side Event on October 12 and a Downtown Event on October 19. Invited will be the winners of the September 7 primary election and Independents as listed on the official Board of Elections general election ballot for County Executive.

Your voting location, ward, precinct and district maps are available on the Board of Elections website: www.boe.cuyahogacounty.us or by calling the Board of Elections at 216-443-3298. Voter registration deadline for the November 2 general election is October 4, 2010.
