Westlake City Council Ward 1 candidate: Lynda Appel

Lynda Appel

I am a dynamic community member and have devoted much of my public life to community service. I eagerly stepped up to help with Relay for Life the first year it came to Westlake, securing Deacon Dave Kinzel as the honorary chair and helping to educate the community about what Relay for Life is.

From 1999-2003, I lived with my family in Wisconsin, but we were eager to return to Westlake. We did not look at any other communities, we had confidence in the city government and the schools, we knew this was where we wanted to raise our family.

Over the next nine years, I co-founded the Westlake Parent Connection and the Parent to Parent Network. I used my technical skills to build the websites and communication tools that reached parents across Ohio.

My proactive approach, consistent follow-up, attention to detail and my ability to consider all stakeholders’ needs and roles will allow me to contribute to the effective running of our city and needs of Ward 1. Others have stated, "when you have the privilege to work with her, it enhances your own capabilities."

I plan to listen to the concerns of Ward 1, ask questions to gain understanding, and make thoughtful decisions that benefit the most people while keeping the goals of the city and the needs of the ward in balance.

I have been married to Jeff for 22 years. We have one son, Paul, and two daughters, Julie and Michelle.
