Holiday fun at the Westlake Rec Center

The holidays are fast approaching and 'tis the season to give ... and also have a little fun! On Saturday Dec. 12, from 10 a.m. to noon, Black Dog Lacrosse, in conjunction with the Westlake Recreation Department will host its annual Charity Lacrosse Clinic. This clinic will be held in the gym of the Westlake Recreation Center and is open to all boys and girls in grades K-6. There is no fee to participate; however, all participants are required to bring in a FULL grocery bag of dry, nonperishable food items. No expired food, please. These items will be then donated to the Westlake Assistance Program.

This is an introductory clinic for those players new to the game or with less than two years experience. This clinic will focus on stick skills as well as basic passing/team building skills. Bring your lacrosse stick or you may borrow one from us. All participants must be pre-registered in order to attend. Register at the Westlake Recreation Center.

The Westlake Recreation Department is also offering the following events for the holiday season:

Holiday Family Fun Night

Friday, Dec. 11, marks the return of the popular two-hour family fun night. This program is open to all current members of the Westlake Recreation center. All children must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians. The Rec Center will close at 6 p.m. (fitness will remain open until 8:45). Starting at 6:30, families will be able to enjoy Christmas/holiday videos, balloon twisters, swimming, crafts, jump around in the gym, songs by holiday carolers and a visit by Santa himself including his reading of "'Twas the Night Before Christmas."  This is free to all members but you must pre-register for this event.

Letters to Santa

Kids ages 3-8 can drop their letters to Santa and we will mail them to the North Pole. Children will receive an electronic response from Santa. Letters can be dropped off at the Recreation Center in the special “North Pole” mailbox no later than Dec. 15. Registration is required. Free to members of the Westlake Recreation Center. Non-members may register for only $2 per child.

Holiday House Workshop

On Thursday, Dec. 17, from 4-5 p.m. OR 5:15-6:15 p.m., children ages 5-8 can decorate their own small holiday house made out of graham crackers. All supplies are included. Children under age 7 must be accompanied by an adult.

Kringle’s Workshop

Santa is busy getting his list ready for Christmas and the elves are busy making the toys. On Monday, Dec. 21, 3-3:45 p.m., kids ages 5-8 can get busy and make two homemade gifts to put under the tree for their parents/grandparents. Each gift will be made in our shop by your child and wrapped to take home. This is a drop-off program and the parent must remain in the building during this time.

NOON Year’s Eve

Is midnight past your bedtime? Help us welcome in 2016 at NOON! Starting at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 31, we will have some goodies to nibble on, crafts and a DJ to rock the house. Come dressed for the occasion in your best PJ’s and slippers. As we approach noon, we will have a countdown. This is a chance for parents and children ages 3-9 to welcome in the New Year in a safe and fun environment. All in attendance must be registered.
